Designer Clothing Store
Starting up your own designer clothing store is exciting and can be very lucrative. While the business is competitive and tight, here are some tips to help you get up and running.
Be Different from the Competition
To get noticed by consumers, the store must offer something that the competition does not. For example, if store A sells dress pants, you can sell jeans. Or if the store sells wedding dresses, you can offer sports apparel.
Simply copying the other stores will not be enough. Needless to say, the clothes you sell have to be of the highest quality. For a new store, first impressions from customers are critical.
Project the Store Strongly
As a designer clothing store, decide if you want the image to be classy, chic, casual etc. Once you have decided, set up the store and its products in that manner. If the store is going to be chic, the store design, the clothes etc have to appear this way. Consistency is the key.
Customer Service
Quality service is what customers pay for, aside from the apparel. Make sure you hire qualified and professionally trained people. They need to be patient, courteous and knowledgeable about the clothes.
The store personnel should be ready to help the customer in any way possible. Also think about offering special services. These may include a children’s corner, low cost or free tailoring at the store or something else.
Know Your Customers
You need to have a tracking system or program that can keep an eye on what items are selling. This will assist you in determining the tastes of your customers. Have an eye out for trends too. If your customers are models or celebrities, the availability of the latest clothing lines is a must.
Advertising is Your Friend
The goal of your ads is to encourage people to come into your store. To do this, the ads (regardless of the media you choose) have to convey the image you want to project. For an ad to be effective, it must be eye catching, informative and straight to the point. Instead of thinking of ads as another budgetary expense, think of it as a tool for boosting sales.
Opening a designer clothing store requires more than just money. The right attitude is necessary as well. Carefully choosing the clothes you will sell will be the key to its development. Combine this with good customer service and you’ll be on the road to success.
