Designer Cocktail Dress
Cocktail dresses are worn for semi-formal events such as proms, dinner and cocktail parties, and other events where semi-formal attire is indicated in the invitation.
The versatility of a cocktail dress gives you the flexibility to accessorize it so you won’t appear too casual for an event and yet not too formal that you will look overdressed.
If you’re unsure of what type of dress to get for a semi-formal occasion, going with a Designer Cocktail Dress is always a good choice. Designers set the trend in fashion and checking out cocktail dresses from any one of them will give you a jumpstart on choosing the right one.
Picking-Out a Cocktail Dress
Designers like Gucci, Alexander Wang, Valentino, Oscar De La Renta, Chloe, Roberto Cavalli and Emilio Pucci provide some of the most elegant and classy cocktail dresses to fashionable women today.
However, simply getting your cocktail dress from your favorite designer won’t give you that elegant and classy look if you choose the wrong style, fit or color.
Dress According to Your Body Type
A dress may look good on a mannequin or runway models but it doesn’t follow that it will look good on you. This is not to say that they are more stunning or that they have better body shapes than you.
The fact is, women have different body shapes and there are areas where they may appear heavier, rounder or thinner. The key is to emphasize your assets and avoid calling attention to those less-than-flattering areas in the body.
Slim waists can be accentuated with a belted silk and satin ruffle skirt dress or a strapless corseted lace dress. The corset-style dress can accentuate square shoulders and a slim waist.
On the other hand, if the hips are a bit wide or round, A-line skirts and halter dresses could be your best options.
Choose the Right Length
As a rule, cocktail dresses should not be more than an inch above the knee or two inches below the knee. However, there are styles now that are two inches above the knee, sometimes higher; and there are also now dresses that are two inches above the ankles.
While this is acceptable and in fact, considered fashionable on occasion, be careful not to go overboard with the length that the dress will look like a mini or an evening gown.
Dress for Comfort
A Designer Cocktail Dress will fail to make you look classy and sophisticated if you are uncomfortable in it. An ill-fitting dress can ruin your enjoyment of the occasion and make you feel self-conscious.
Before your event, try on the dress and walk in it a few times. Also sit and even dance in it a little as if you were already at the party. This will give you an idea of how you would feel in it once you’re at your event.
This will also get you to feel accustomed to wearing it so you won’t feel ill-at-ease when it’s time to put it on for the party.
